Observations in Overtime

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I moved to DC.

In my limited time out here in the DC political climate, I have come to realize that on just about any issue, a basketball game comparison is actually quite relevant to congress – at least the end of a basketball game.  This tends to happen during a lot of Laker championship games, which is mostly what I watch, and most likely during some other sports as well:

  • One team is wasting time while the clock is running out because they think they have a good chance of winning once the clock does actually run out.
  • The other team is trying to get the ball and play as much good offense as they can and make as many shots, even if they are 2 pointers, before the clock runs out for them and they no longer have possession of the ball.

So there’s my two cents after living in DC for a little over a week and vigorously digesting as much political information as possible.

It is highly likely that this basketball comparison has been made before by someone much smarter than me and/or much more knowledgeable in either field. If so, I apologize and am not trying to steal anyone’s metaphorical thunder.

I was recently browsing the Sochi 2014 brand site via the Interbrand company site and they are all about branding not only the event itself, but the “Russia of the future.” And frankly, it’s pretty cool…
