A Middle East Feast

So as I was reading Jeff Goldberg’s much anticipated cover story for the Atlantic and, ironically, eating my favorite Trader Joe’s, sorry – “Arabian Joe’s” pack lunch titled “Middle East Feast,” something interesting happened:
I dropped my cell phone into the hummus.
Now, if you know me, this isn’t a very unusual occurrence for me. I lose and/or break cell phones and other valuables on a regular basis. Just this week, I have spilled tea and water all over my desk at work, Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
Being a lover of metaphors, analogies and all sorts of literary snob goodies, I of course thought this was symbolic. After all, the Atlantic piece is talking about Israel’s likeliness to bomb Iran sometime soon.
Out of the suspicion of hidden symbolism in my cubicle lunch, I decided it was worth a tweet.
The tweet and the conversation that ensued…
@olgs7 Dropped my cell phone in hummus while reading Jeff Goldberg’s piece @TheAtlantic about Israel and a nuclear Iran. Symbolic?
@N_Katz Well that depends what the hummus and cell phone represent… it’s a complex environment you know…
@olgs7 I haven’t quite figured out what the hummus and cell phone represent. I guess the phone could be technology/weapons and hummus represents Israel. I guess that can be pretty symbolic?
@N_Katz I hope not… especially if that phone fell in…well at least you had an insightful lunch
@olgs7 It didn’t entirely fall in. There was hardly any hummus left so it only brushed against the hummus. Talk about metaphors.
@N_Katz Thx, that’s a relief. clarification appreciated
I hope you reach a more peaceful world by dinner.
